Resolution Supporting Food Freedom and Unregulated Food Production

Adopted Unanimously by the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania on March 3rd 2024

 

Whereas, the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania upholds the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and fighting government interference in the lives of citizens; and

Whereas, individuals have the inherent right to make choices regarding the food they consume, free from government regulations and restrictions; and

Whereas, government regulations on food production often limit consumer choice, stifle innovation, and disproportionately burden small-scale and local food producers; and

Whereas, small-scale and local food producers play a vital role in providing diverse, high-quality food options to consumers and contribute to vibrant local economies; and

Whereas, government regulations can create barriers to entry for small-scale and local food producers, inhibiting their ability to compete in the marketplace;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania advocates for food freedom and supports the rights of individuals to purchase, sell, and consume food products of their choice, free from government regulations and oversight; and

Be it further resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania calls for the repeal and elimination of government- imposed barriers to entry for small-scale and local food producers, including but not limited to licensing requirements, zoning restrictions, and ineffective and unnecessary food safety regulations; and

Be it further resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania demands lawmakers at all levels of government to recognize and respect the rights of individuals to engage in voluntary exchange and association within the food marketplace; and

Be it further resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania affirms its commitment to promoting a free and competitive food market that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and consumer choice, while safeguarding the rights of individuals to make informed free decisions about the food they eat.

Be it further resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania condemns the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Police for their raid on Amos Miller’s farm and their seizure of his raw milk products and demands that state agents immediately cease their harassment of all food producers participating in voluntary exchange with the public.
