HARRISBURG, PA – Joe Adams, Penndel Borough Councilman, announced at the council’s official meeting Monday night that he would be leaving the Republican Party to join the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania.

“When I ran for office, it was under the premise to help the community of Penndel and reduce the government’s impact on our citizen’s daily lives,” Mr. Adams stated. “I believed the Republican Party was the best vehicle to do that. Upon serving in office, I quickly realized the two major parties are nearly identical and spend more time fighting over control than they do helping their constituents.”

Mr. Adams reached out to the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania through Twitter one evening and was instantly impressed with the response. “I was contacted by the party’s Chair of Elections and members of the Bucks County leadership team the next morning,” Mr. Adams explained. “They were welcoming and really convinced me I was making the right decision. It was a level of support I never saw as an elected Republican.”

Mr. Adams told the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania that he has been leaning libertarian most of his adult life. He said that growing up in Philadelphia and attending a military high school opened his eyes to how the state recruited America’s youth to fight costly foreign wars. He believes in making government smaller and allowing people to make decisions for themselves and says that neither major party in the United States stands for that today. He hopes that his choice will open more people’s eyes to the fact that there are better options out there in the quest for freedom and worthy representation.
