Auburn, Alabama – Benjamin Seevers, a Libertarian council member for North Apollo Borough in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, was awarded the 2022 Douglas E. French Prize at Mises University. The prize is awarded to the student with the best record as chosen by the examining committee based on a three-round examination. Reece Smith, a Libertarian from Allegheny County, PA, took third place in the exam.

“It was intimidating,” Seevers said about the examination, which consisted of a written exam and two rounds of oral exams before panels of nationally recognized professors of economics. “It was one of the best weeks of my life and an honor which I am beyond thankful for. I had so many bright conversations with awesome people and thank the Mises Institute for this opportunity.”

The Mises Institute, which celebrates its 40th Anniversary this October, is named after famed economist Ludwig von Mises and promotes Austrian Economic theory.

“It is not surprising that two Pennsylvanian Libertarians finished in the top three,” said John Thomas, chair of the Media Relations Committee of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania, the third largest political party in Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania has a long history of supporting liberty. We are the home of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutional Convention. And the Libertarian Party is the party of sound economics. We are proud of these young men for continuing these traditions in economics and liberty.”
