It’s a famous trope among libertarians that we endlessly disparage the idea of the social contract.

“I didn't consent to anything!” is the common argument. “Your laws are immorally being forced on me without my consent!”

Perhaps.

But is this really true?

So, the latest stop on the Nanny State Express... is plastic straws. While I can appreciate that plastic straws are part of a pollution problem, the outright ban of this handy little item seems a bit extreme. If the problem is straws washing upon the beach, the real issue should be boaters, and those on cruise ships. After all, that would seem to be the root cause of the problem.
